Walt Disney Pinocchio U.S. First Edition (Random House) 1939
CollectingCollectables.com is selling this rare and very desirable piece of Disneyana which is the Walt Disney book version of Pinocchio published by Random House in 1939 (film released in the US on 7th February 1940), when Disney released their second feature length animation film and the sequel to Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs which was released in 1937. This is a stunning children’s illustrated book with colour and black and white illustrations taken directly from the Walt Disney movie which are throughout the book
The original illustrated boards bear an illustration of Pinocchio with Jiminy Cricket to the front board and a portrait of Jiminy Cricket wearing his “Official Conscience” badge to the back board. The boards are in Good condition with wear to the edges and a small indentation to the front board by the word “illustrations”. The boards’ joints are weak to the top and bottom, but are securely attached to the original blue cloth spine with yellow lettering, which is worn.
This rare book has the original endpapers to the front and back which show Pinocchio in various poses in red on a yellow background. All pages are present and unpaginated and are in very clean and overall Very Good condition with only the lightest of age toning
The Copyright Page is to the reverse of the Title Page and states:
“COPYRIGHT 1939 BY WALT DISNEY PRODUCTIONS”
The Copyright Page is opposite the Introduction by Walt Disney, which reads:
“This is the book version of our second feature-length animated motion picture, Pinocchio, based on the famous Collodi story of the mischievous wooden puppet who comes to life and goes though amazing adventures.
It is dedicated to the many people, young and old, whose encouraging letters suggested that we tell the story of Pinocchio in our medium.
The illustrations by the studio staff are original production drawings created during the two years our picture was in the making. WALT DISNEY”
This is a wonderful piece of Disneyana that will make a centrepiece of any collection – whether you are a Disney collector from the early days of the Disney Studios; a children’s illustrated book collector; or a film memorabilia collector!!!
